China has a very strict firearm law. One good reason why mass shootings rarely occur in the country. The only way to have the same effect as a mass shooting is with multiple people using knifes slashing people. Somehow the Xingjiang terrorists who performed this attack had figured this same idea out.
On Mar. 1, a bloody assault occurred at the railway station of Kunming city, Yunnan Province. Official reports claim there were 29 fatalities and 143 injuries as of 9 a.m. on Mar. 2. The incident immediately became the hottest topic on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, and China's Internet, and was widely reported by Chinese media. However, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) then tightened control over the media, and required all reports to tow the same line as party mouthpieces.
As a result, it became very difficult to know the facts,
causing the incident to appear even more mysterious.
The report from New Tang Dynasty asks the real question? Were the terrorist attack came from seperatists? Or is it some thing seperate?
The attack came just days before China's "Two Meetings", the meetings of the People's Congress of China and the Chinese Political Consultative Conference. They both are considered rubber stamp parliments for the olicratic Chinese Communitst Party for decisions already made higher up. The two meetings exist to give the decisions legitimacy by creating laws.
But to the Propaganda Department, they don't want to this tragic incident to dominate the headlines, so they ordered all microblogs and news agencies to report what only Xinhua says.
For the politically observant person: The Chinese Communist Party is no different than executive higher ups in Newspapers in America telling editors and journalists what to (or not to) write or report.
